Carnaross Gaelic Football Club County Meath Ireland

Friends of Carnaross GFC

A Chairde,

As we prepare to start the new football season, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members for their continued support over the past season and beyond. Through our excellent fundraiser ‘Come Laugh With Us’ we have managed to raise a significant portion of the money needed for our new development and when coupled with the substantial Sports Capital Grant we received, we are well on our way to seeing the dream of our new clubhouse become a reality.

Our focus now, however, must turn to funding the day to day running costs of our club. Over the past couple of years, we have been continually upgrading and improving our facilities. A notable example of this is the low-level lighting erected around our running track followed by the resurfacing of the track last spring. This year we would like to continue making improvements such as erecting lighting from the pedestrian gate to the track and resurfacing this area.

Along with general improvement and maintenance works at the club grounds, our running costs are ever increasing. With increased member numbers and participation levels, come higher running costs such as insurance cost, team preparations, training equipment, playing gear etc. Our juvenile teams are where we are seeing most of our expansion, with the number of boys and girls playing football for Carnaross GFC growing rapidly year on year. This is the main reason driving our new clubhouse development which is nearing commencement. When our new facility is complete we will be able to offer top quality facilities to ensure full enjoyment and comfort for all our members, young and old, playing and non-playing members. Discussions are also currently ongoing regards starting girl’s football teams at underage level, with a view to one day having our own ladies’ adult team in Carnaross.

With all this in mind, we have taken the decision to introduce a new membership fundraising model for the club in 2018 and hopefully beyond. Our new fundraiser is to be called ‘Friends of Carnaross GFC’ and will take the form of a monthly draw. Entering the draw will require a contribution of €20 per month. There will be a monthly prize fund of 25% of the total contributions. This 25% will be spilt into 3 prizes of 15%, 5% and 5%. ‘Friends of Carnaross GFC’ will run for a 12-draw period, with the first draw to take place in the first week of March 2018 and the last draw in February 2019, before a new cycle will begin.

There are 3 options available to enter the draw.

  • Option 1 is a monthly contribution of €20 by standing order, where €20 will be debited from your account on a date of each month of your choosing (Standing order form enclosed) which brings a total contribution of €240 for the 12 draw cycle.
  • Option 2 is to make a once-off contribution upfront. A contribution of €240 will gain entry to 12 draws.
  • Option 3 is a contribution in the form of bi-annual installments of €120. The first installment will be made on commencement and the second no later than after the 6th draw is complete.

Included in your entry fee to the ‘Friends of Carnaross GFC’ draw, whether you choose option 1, 2 or 3, is your annual membership fee. This includes all our membership options (Family, Individual, Player and Student). Completed standing order forms can be returned to any member or the executive, finance or juvenile committees by 28th February.

If you are unable to enter our new draw, you can still pay your annual membership fee in the usual way at €50 for family membership, €40 for an individual, €50 for Players membership and €35 for student membership. Click here to download the membership form.

Depending on the success of ‘Friends of Carnaross GFC’ we would hope that this could replace a number of smaller fundraisers ordinarily held throughout the year, e.g. race night, golf classic, quiz nights.  The continued growth and success of our club is dependent upon the hard work and generous support of our members and wider community and I sincerely hope you can join me in becoming a ‘Friend of Carnaross GFC’

Note: If you wish to subscribe to "Friends of Carnaross GFC" for 12 months (which includes your membership subscription), you can do so by clicking here. Otherwise the standing order form will have to be filled out and returned to us.

Le meas,

Eamonn Mac Comascaigh
