Despite pressure from Drumconrath, Carnaross managed to hold their lead right up to half-time when they led 1-4 to 0-6, with two more points coming from Dermot McGee and Brian Comaskey.

John L McGee added a free soon after the interval. Another point from Dermot McGee kept the pressure on Drumconrath who were chipping away at the Carnaross lead. Daniel Reilly scored a goal, but a lot of pressure from Drumconrath brought them back into the game. Both sides enjoyed periods of dominance in an evenly contested first-half and were level at the interval, 0-5 each.

The second-half was also a close and tense affair. Cortown scored an early goal but Carnaross got back level with two points from John L. McGee and one from Ollie Murphy. Cortown then raced two points clear again. Carnaross fought back and scored the last two points of the game to leave the sides level at the final whistle.

Carnaross 3-08 Kilmainhamwood 3-07

A League (Division 2)

Played in Carnaross – 20/7/2007

Carnaross secured two valuable points in dramatic fashion when corner-back Gary Carroll popped up to score the winning goal deep into injury time.

Kilmainhamwood got the opening score of the match in the first minute. Carnaross quickly responded with two points from Ollie Murphy and Stephen Yore and a fine save from Eamonn Comaskey kept the visitors at bay. After about ten minutes Carnaross were leading 0-3 to 0-2 when Ollie Murphy netted to stretch the lead. Carnaross were now beginning to dominate proceedings and with Murphy tormenting the ‘wood’ defence they soon had a six point lead, 1-5 to 0-2. The visitors then got back into the game with a goal of their own when a shot which hit the post fell to a forward who made no mistake from close range. They added two more points to leave one between the sides before Ollie Murphy scored his second goal of the game to give Carnaross a four point lead at the interval, 2-5 to 1-4.

The second-half was mostly dominated by Kilmainhamwood who upped their performance from the opening period. They scored a goal in the opening minutes when a long ball skidded on the slippery surface and caught out Eamonn Comaskey in the goals. They also added a point to level matters and at the midway point were awarded a penalty which was converted to give them a lead of 3-5 to 2-5. Carnaross battled hard and refused to let the lead increase. With both sides trading two points each, Gavin Murphy scored a point late on two leave two between the sides. Going into stoppage time Carnaross were finding it hard just to gain possession with Kilmainhamwood retaining the ball well. However, Carnaross did manage to get the ball, and with time almost up only a goal would be enough. After a fine move towards the Kilmainhamwood goal, Ollie Murphy launched a high ball in towards the square where corner-back Gary Carroll was the unlikely scorer, fisting the ball to the net to give Carnaross a narrow victory.

Best for Carnaross were Patrick Nugent, Alan Smyth, Brian Comaskey and Ollie Murphy.

Simonstown Gaels 1-17 Carnaross 2-08

A League (Division 2)

Played in Simonstown – 10/7/2007

Carnaross made the trip to Navan to face top of the table and unbeaten Simonstown Gaels. Following a terrible display in the previous round against Rathkenny this was a much better performance from Carnaross and they really made the hosts fight for their victory. The game didn’t start so well for Carnaross when they conceded a goal in the first minute. Simonstown added three more points after five minutes and led 1-4 to 0-1 after 10 minutes with John L. McGee scoring for Carnaross. After 15 minutes Simonstown had increased their lead further with three more points. However, McGee brought Carnaross right back into the game when he found himself one on one with the keeper and made no mistake firing to the roof of the net. This gave Carnaross inspiration as they began to dominate affairs for the remainder of the half with points coming from Ollie Murphy, Bernard Murphy and Daniel Reilly. McGee was unlucky not to add another goal when he lost control of the ball close in. Simonstown added another free to lead at the break, 1-8 to 1-4.

The second period was very tight for the opening twenty minutes with Carnaross battling hard to reel in the hosts. When John L. McGee added his second goal, and further points from Daniel Reilly (3) Carnaross found themselves only two points behind with about ten minutes remaining. Simonstown however, managed to keep their noses in front and never lost their lead. They were able to lift their game for the final ten minutes and added five points from play while Carnaross only managed one more free from Ollie Murphy. Carnaross were unlucky to lose by 6 points considering the pressure they had applied for most of the game.

Carnaross 0-02 Rathkenny 3-08

A League (Division 2)

Played in Carnaross – 2/7/2007

Carnaross endured a terrible day at the office when they played host to Rathkenny in wet conditions. The visitors made the brighter start to the game, kicking two early points from play. After ten minutes, Carnaross had a great chance to take the lead when John L. McGee was awarded a penalty after being dragged down in the area. McGee stepped up to take the spot-kick himself but put his shot outside the post. Moments later McGee was again bearing down on goal but was unlucky this time to hit the side netting from a tight angle. He then scored a fine point from play following a good lay-off from Ollie Murphy. Rathkenny were next to score with a long range free. They then added a goal from a high ball into the area which the Carnaross defence failed to deal with. Suddenly Carnaross found themselves five points in arrears. When Ollie Murphy uncharacteristically missed a goal chance when one on one with the keeper, it was a sign for Carnaross it wasn’t to be their night. Rathkenny finished the half with a point and another goal to lead at the break, 2-4 to 0-1.

Carnaross needed to get some early scores in the second-half but it was Rathkenny who got through too easy to score their third goal of the evening. Despite the dismissal of a Rathkenny player midway through the half, Carnaross couldn’t make any impact on the scoreboard with only one more point coming from substitute Daniel Reilly. Rathkenny added four more points to finish off a miserable night all round for Carnaross who were left to rue missing those early goal chances.

Played in Castletown – 25/5/2007

Carnaross put in one of their worst performances in a long time against a rampant Castletown side. The home side made a fantastic start to the game registering scores at will. They had 1-7 on the board before Carnaross even managed to get out of their own half. Ollie Murphy tapped the ball into the net from close range following a good one-two with John L. McGee. This proved to be the only score Carnaross managed in the opening period. Castletown immediately cancelled out the goal with one of their own and added further points to lead 2-10 to 1-0 at the interval.

Carnaross upped their performance slightly in the second-half. Dermot McGee scored a goal shortly after the resumption.
