Carnaross were on the receiving end of a heavy defeat at home to Syddan in the opening match of the A League campaign which was played in foggy conditions. Syddan opened the scoring with an early point which was cancelled out shortly afterwards when Ollie Murphy scored the best point of the match from a tight angle close to the corner flag. Syddan however were to enjoy the best of the next fifteen minutes and stretched their lead to 0-4 to 0-1. The lead could have been more but for a fine save from Shane Comaskey in goals. John L. McGee added a point from a free when he was fouled close to goals. Syddan extended the lead again and scored three more points before the break to lead 0-7 to 0-3, with McGee adding another point for Carnaross.

The second-half was evenly contested in the early stages but after ten minutes Syddan had maintained their four point lead, 0-9 to 0-5 with the Carnaross scores coming from Killian Porter and a John L McGee free. With about ten minutes remaining the score was 0-12 to 0-7 with McGee adding two more frees, when Dermot McGee was sent-off for a second bookable offence. This proved to be the nail in the coffin for Carnaross as Syddan dominated the remainder of the game to win out 1-16 to 0-7.

Best for Carnaross were Dermot McGee in defence, Brian Comaskey at midfield and John L McGee up front.

St. Ultans 1-15 Carnaross 2-6

Carnaross played their second League match in five days and once again suffered a disappointing defeat. St. Ultans dominated most of the first-half except for a ten minute period at the midway point. By this stage they led by 0-6 to 0-0 but while Carnaross enjoyed a good spell of possession they failed to register any scores on the board. St. Ultans then took over again and added a goal. Three more points left them 1-9 to 0-1 in front at the interval with John L. McGee scoring a free for Carnaross late on.

St. Ultans scored the opening point of the second period. Carnaross upped their game in the second-half and added points from Ollie Murphy (2), Dermot McGee and a fine effort from Gary Carroll. St. Ultans however maintained their lead to stay in front. Carnaross were awarded two penaltys late on and John L. McGee converted both, but these were just consolation scores at this point.

Patrick Nugent, Brian Comaskey, Ollie Murphy and John L McGee impressed for Carnaross.

Ratoath 0-8 Carnaross 1-5

Carnaross produced a spirited second-half performance against the wind for a share of the spoils with Ratoath. They were unlucky not to take full points after substitute Damien Smith rattled the crossbar in the closing stages.

Playing with the breeze in the first-half, Carnaross opened the scoring through John L McGee with a point from play. The home side levelled shortly after with a point from play. Ollie Murphy put Carnaross back in front but once again Ratoath were level soon afterwards with a free. Ratoath then took the lead with two more frees. McGee added a free for Carnaross before Ratoath got the final score of the half with a point from play to lead 0-5 to 0-3 at the break.

Carnaross got the first point of the second-half from Declan Reilly. Ratoath had the better of the next ten minutes and stretched their lead with three more points from play. Carnaross lifted their game and set about clawing back the four point deficit. With ten minutes remaining a long ball in towards the square was fisted to the net by John L McGee. Killian Porter scored the equaliser with a point from play. The momentum was now with Carnaross but despite all their efforts they couldn’t find the score to win the game with Damien Smith seeing his shot come back off the crossbar and another effort from Porter was carried wide by the strong breeze.

Best for Carnaross were Emmet Mullan, Thomas Nugent, Dermot McGee, John L McGee and Patrick Nugent.

Carnaross 2-10 St. Colmcilles 2-8

Carnaross produced their best League performance to date against St. Colmcilles to register their first win of the campaign. Two second-half goals from Killian Porter proved to be the crucial scores.

The game started terribly for Carnaross when they found themselves trailing 1-2 to 0-0 after only five minutes. Goalkeeper Cillian Comaskey was unlucky to see his save rebound to a St. Colmcilles forward who finished to the net. Carnaross got back to within two points with three frees from John L McGee. St. Colmcilles then scored their second goal of the game when the Carnaross defence failed to clear a ’45 which dropped into the square. Gavin Murphy scored a fine point from play to leave four points between the sides at the break, 2-3 to 0-5.

Right from the throw-in for the second-half Carnaross battled hard to cut into the visitors lead and scored two early points from Ollie Murphy and Damien Smith. St. Colmcilles replied with a point from play before Killian Porter levelled matters with a goal when he latched onto a breaking ball and made no mistake from close range. Moments later Porter found himself one on one with the goalkeeper and he calmly finished to the bottom corner of the net to put Carnaross into the lead for the first time in the match. John L McGee stretched the lead to four but the visitors replied with a point of their own. Two more points from Declan Reilly and McGee put Carnaross five clear going into the closing stages. St. Colmcilles to their credit refused to give in and scored the last three points of the game but Carnaross held on to record a valuable first win with a great battling team performance.

Carnaross 2-4 Castletown 0-10

Carnaross and Castletown shared the points in a game played in very windy conditions in Carnaross.

The home side aided by the strong wind opened the scoring when John L. McGee converted a free. Castletown responded straight away and scored the next four points, three from play. Carnaross levelled matters when McGee latched onto a long ball from Paddy Nugent and with only the keeper to beat he finished to the net. Carnaross then took the lead with Gavin Murphy scoring a point from play. McGee got his second goal of the half when another long ball into the square beat two defenders and he managed to get his fist to the ball and send it over the keepers head. Castletown got the final score of the half with a point from play to leave Carnaross leading 2-3 to 0-5 at the break.

Castletown who now had the wind advantage scored the first point of the half. It was about 15 minutes before they added to their tally with a free kick. John L McGee scored what proved to be the only score of the second-half for Carnaross. Castletown were three points behind going into the last ten minutes and they managed to level matters with three points from play. Carnaross were left to rue missed chances they had in the second-half but defended well under pressure to make sure they wouldn’t be beaten.

Trim 1-13 Carnaross 0-11

Carnaross suffered a five point defeat away to Trim despite a spirited second-half effort having trailed by seven points at the break.

The home side aided by a strong breeze were first to score with two points from play before Declan Reilly got the first score for Carnaross from a free. Carnaross spurned many early chances and Trim took full advantage as they kicked six unanswered points. Carnaross got their second point shortly before the break from wing-back Ciaran McDonnell following good work from Brian Comaskey. Trim got the final score of the half to take a 0-9 to 0-2 lead at the interval.

Carnaross started the second-half strongly and scored four early points from play through Killian Porter, Declan Reilly and Patrick Nugent (2) to cut the deficit to three points. The home side replied with a point of their own before scoring a goal about midway through the half. Carnaross hit back with a point from play from Killian Porter and a free from Patrick Nugent. Both sides traded three points each in the final ten minutes with the Carnaross scores coming from Declan Reilly (2) and Patrick Nugent.

Rathkenny 1-11 Carnaross 3-10

Carnaross produced their best league performance so far when they beat Rathkenny by five points with all their scores coming from play.

Carnaross kicked two early wides before the home side opened the scoring with a free. Carnaross scored a goal with Declan Reilly making no mistake from close range when Ollie Murphy’s attempted point rebounded off a post. Rathkenny responded with two points before Killian Porter put Paddy Nugent through and he finished low to the bottom of the net. Rathkenny scored another free before Patrick Smith found John L McGee unmarked and he split the posts. McGee had another point soon afterwards but Rathkenny hit back with three unanswered points to take the lead. Ollie Murphy scored the final point to leave the sides level at the break 2-3 to 1-6.

Rathkenny scored a quick point which was cancelled out when Brian Comaskey fisted the ball over the bar. Carnaross had their third goal of the game when John L McGee displayed his soccer skills by putting Declan Reilly through for his second goal of the game. Both side traded two points each with the Carnaross scores coming from McGee and Killian Porter. Carnaross then increased their lead to six points with a point each from Gavin Murphy, Ollie Murphy and Damien Smith. Going into the closing stages Rathkenny reduced the deficit with two points from play before Killian Porter got the final point to leave five between the sides.

Carnaross 0-11 O’Mahonys 3-13

The concession of two goals in the opening ten minutes had Carnaross on the back foot from the start as they played host to an unbeaten Navan O’Mahonys side in a game which saw only five points from frees.

Carnaross opened the scoring through John L McGee before O’Mahonys responded with a goal soon afterwards. A second point from play from McGee left a point between the sides but once again the senior side hit back with a goal and a point in quick succession to leave Carnaross trailing 2-1 to 0-2 after ten minutes. Carnaross then enjoyed a good ten minute spell where they kicked four unanswered points from McGee, Matthew O’Reilly, Declan Reilly and an Ollie Murphy free. The remainder of the half was dominated by O’Mahonys as they outscored the home team four points to one with Dermot McGee hitting the target for Carnaross as they trailed 0-7 to 2-5 at the break.

O’Mahonys opened the second-half scoring with a point before John L McGee scored his fourth point from play. Two more points from the Navan side left two goals between the teams. Both sides traded two points each with Ollie Murphy and Damien Smith registering for Carnaross. Going into the last ten minutes, the two early goal separated the sides before O’Mahonys put the game beyond doubt as they outscored Carnaross 1-5 to 0-1 to run out double-score winners.
