Carnaross made the long trip to Longwood and came away with full points following a close exciting match under lights. The game was a tight affair from the start with little between the sides.

Carnaross made a good start and early points from Killian Porter (2) and Declan Reilly gave them the advantage. Longwood however battled back with a few scores of their own and when they scored a goal at the midway stage along with another few points, the advantage was now with the home side. Carnaross had a goal of their own shortly afterwards when Damian McArdle finished a fine move involving Gavin Murphy and Killian Porter. Another point from Porter left Carnaross one point behind at the interval, 1-5 to 1-4.

Carnaross battled hard in the second-half and restricted the home side to just two points. Killian Porter added two more points and Damian McArdle got his second goal of the game following a pass from Niall McDonnell. Longwood did have their chances but hit the crossbar and were also denied a goal following a good save from goalkeeper Cillian Comaskey. Carnaross however refused to allow them back into the game and a fine point from Rory O’Connor put three points between the sides.

Carnaross continued their good start to the B League campaign when they beat Donaghmore/Ashbourne in their impressive new facilities. Early points from Killian Porter (0-2) and one each from the Smith brothers, Patrick & Damien left Carnaross leading 0-4 to 0-1 at the midway point of the first-half. Patrick Smith added another point before Declan Reilly finished the first-half scoring with a point to leave Carnaross leading 0-6 to 0-1 at the break.

Carnaross continued their dominance after the interval and scored the next six points through Rory O’Connor (2), Damian McArdle, Ciaran McDonnell and Declan Reilly (2). With ten minutes remaining the home side scored a goal before Carnaross hit back with a goal of their own from Declan Reilly and two more points from Peter Mullan and Rory O’Connor. Donaghmore/Ashbourne scored the final point of the game as Carnaross ran out twelve point winners.

Best for Carnaross were Emmet Mullan, Shane Comaskey in defence, Peter Mullan in the middle and Rory O’Connor, Killian Porter and Declan Reilly in attack.

Carnaross proved too strong for St. Brigids and recorded a big win to maintain their 100% start to the B League campaign making it three wins from three. Playing with the aid of a strong breeze Carnaross dominated the opening half and had two early goals from Stephen Flattery and a penalty from Gary Carroll. The home side were scoring freely and scored eight points through Rory O’Connor (2), Alan Carroll (2), Gary Carroll (1), Alan Smyth (1), Ciaran McDonnell (1) and Niall McDonnell (1). Alan Smyth added another goal to give Carnaross a half-time lead of 3-8 to 0-0.

Carnaross started the second-half brightly with a few early points. St. Brigids finally got a few scores on the board while playing with the breeze but they were unable to get the goals they needed to get back into the game. Two well taken goals by Gary Carroll and Stephen Flattery ensured Carnaross would not give their opponents any way back. Points from Flattery (2), Peter Mullan (2), Rory O’Connor (1), Alan Smyth (1), Patrick Smith (1) and Niall McDonnell (1) left Carnaross 25 point winners.

Curraha 0-8 Carnaross 1-13

Carnaross made it four wins from four when they got the better of hosts Curraha with a strong second-half performance after both sides were level at the break.

Playing with the wind in the opening period, a sluggish start left Carnaross trailing by 0-3 to 0-0 after about ten minutes. They finally got their act together and found themselves back in the game with points from a Niall McDonnell free and two from play from Patrick Smith. The remainder of the half was very tight as both sides added two more each to finish the half at 0-5 each.

The second-half was about five minutes old when Carnaross found themselves with an extra man when Curraha had a player dismissed. This proved to be a boost to Carnaross as they took control of the game and some well taken scores from Patrick Smith, Conor Kenny and Niall McDonnell put them in the driving seat. Rory O’Connor added a free before Stephen Flattery put the game beyond doubt with a superb goal before following it up with a massive point soon afterwards.

Carnaross maintained their unbeaten run making it five wins from as many outings when they finished two point winners following a tough and highly entertaining battle with neighbours Drumbaragh.

It took the home side ten minutes to get into the game by which time Drumbaragh had three points on the board. Stephen Flattery found himself one on one with the advancing keeper and he finished low to the net. This goal spurred Carnaross on and they enjoyed a spell of dominance resulting in points from Flattery (2), Thomas Farrelly (2) and Ciaran McDonnell. Drumbaragh responded with two points of their own to leave a goal between the sides at the break, 1-5 to 0-5.

The second-half was even more competitive as both sides gave everything. Early points from Drumbaragh brought them back into the game but Carnaross responded through Rory O’Connor and a Niall McDonnell free. Carnaross had their second goal of the game when the ball fell off the tee just as the Drumbaragh keeper was striking it and his mis-kick went straight to Alan Carroll who lobbed the keeper. Drumbaragh hit back with two goals of their own to put them two points in front going into the closing stages. Carnaross refused to throw in the towel and quick thinking from Stephen Flattery from a free put Damian McArdle through and his shot nestled in the bottom corner of the net to put them back in front. Carnaross finished strongly and a free from Damian McArdle and a fine effort from play from Niall McDonnell put Carnaross three points in front. Drumbaragh scored the last point of the game from a free as Carnaross held on for a hard earned victory.

Ten weeks after playing their last game, Carnaross suffered their first defeat of the year when they went down by two points under lights to host side Skryne.

Following a slow first ten minutes when both sides struggled to get a score, Carnaross registered through Patrick Smith before the home side hit back to equalise soon after. Carnaross then had a two-point lead with points from Alan Smyth and Rory O’Connor. Skryne hit back with a point before Damian McArdle restored the two-point lead. Going into the closing stages of the half Skryne enjoyed a period of dominance scoring 1-2 without reply to go in leading at the interval 1-4 to 0-4.

Skryne opened the scoring in the second-half with a point from play. Carnaross hit back with two points from Rory O’Connor and Patrick Smith. Skryne responded with another point before Rory O’Connor converted a free two leave two between the sides. Stephen Flattery brought Carnaross back into the game finishing a good move up the wing with a well taken goal. Carnaross however failed to capatalise with the home side outscoring them four points to two with Stephen Flattery and Shane McNiffe raising the white flags. Carnaross, who had Peter Mullan dismissed going into the closing stages, pushed hard in search of the goal they needed but it didn’t come their way.

Carnaross 1-9 Skryne 1-13

B League Final (Division 6)

Carnaross failed to capture the silverware in the B League Final when a Skryne goal five minutes from full-time proved to be the nail in the coffin.

The first-half was a tight affair throughout and Carnaross held a two-point advantage at the break, 1-6 to 0-7. Niall McDonnell led the way with 1-4 and the other two scores came from Stephen Flattery and a Ciaran McDonnell ’45.

In the second-half Skryne started the brightest and quickly wiped out the two point deficit and went in front by a point. Niall McDonnell added two more points and with about ten minutes remaining the teams were level. Skryne hit the front again before Patrick Smith levelled matters with a well taken point. Then came the crucial score as Skryne scored a goal to leave them three points in front. Another point in the closing stages saw them run out four point winners.
