Carnaross 0-6 St. Vincents 1-12

B League (Division 4)

Played in Ardcath – 11/4/2010

A disappointing performance from Carnaross resulted in a second defeat in a game that was there for the taking despite the wide winning margin.

The home side started well and led 0-5 to 0-1 midway through the half with Damian Smith scoring for Carnaross.  Carnaross then came back into the game but were guilty of spurning their chances and kicking six wides.  Smith however did add two more points from frees and St. Vincents scored the last point of the half to lead 0-6 to 0-3 at the break.

A dull opening to the second half resulted in only a point each being scored after ten minutes.  A player from each side was then dismissed with Stephen Flattery on the receiving end of a harsh red card.  Two more points apiece left three between the sides with Damian Smith and Rory O’Connor hitting the target for Carnaross.  Smith then spurned a goal chance which would have levelled the game with less than five minutes remaining.  A goal for St. Vincents then put six between the sides and they went on to stretch their lead with three more points in the final moments.

B League (Division 4)

Played in Duleek – 18/5/2010

Carnaross slumped to their third defeat as Duleek/Bellewstown maintained their unbeaten start to the B League with a five point victory.

The home side played with the advantage of a strong breeze in the first half and raced into a 1-7 to 0-1 lead after Peter Mullan had opened the scoring.  Carnaross finished the half strongly with two frees from Peter Farrelly and Ciaran McDonnell.  McDonnell reduced the margin further when he converted a penalty at the second attempt after the keeper had advanced from his line to save the initial effort.  A point from Duleek/Bellewstown left them 1-8 to 1-3 in front at half time.

After the break the wind which assisted Duleek/Bellewstown in the first half died down and was replaced by heavy rain.  The home side started strongest and scored 1-3 without reply to lead by eleven points.  Carnaross however upped their game and Ciaran McDonnell put over a free and substitute Dean Connell’s speculative shot was misjudged by the keeper and finished up in the net. Colin Yore had a goal attempt saved before Patrick Smith added another point from a free. Duleek/Bellewstown hit back with two more points before Peter Mullan scored two points and Ciaran McDonnell put over a ’45.  However the home side had done enough and managed to hold on to their lead.
