Carnaross travelled to lesser known Pace to take on St Pauls of Clonee in Division 4 of the Premier Championship and recorded their second win of the campaign.
Premier Championship Division 4 (Round 2)
Played in Pace – 16/8/2020
The game was only 2 minutes old when Dermot McGee rounded the keeper to finish the ball into the net after being ably assisted by his brother and partner in crime, John L. Indeed, John L continued to cause problems for the opposition by opening up his own account soon after. St Pauls were handed a lifeline when a mix up in the Carnaross defence led to a fortuitous goal. This settled the hosts and they began to take the game to the North Meath men.
Cormac Yore kept the scoreboard ticking over with 2 placed balls matching the 2 St Pauls efforts. The McGee brothers continued to terrorise the Dublin border club with 3 more points before the interval. Cormac O'Reilly was commanding the edge of the square while Cian Gillic and Sam Reynolds were first to the breaks to launch attacks. The first half struggled to ignite after the early flurry as both teams fell victim to the inclement weather and dreary atmosphere.
The second half continued in a similar vein with Shane Casserly, Cormac Yore and John L pointing. The turning point in the game came when Dermot McGee switched into the full forward line and got instant reward when he pounced for his second goal, reacting quickest to a loose ball in the square. This drained the life out of Clonee and allowed Carnaross hone in on the victory. John L kicked over a free after he himself was fouled. Richard Mulvey capped off another fine display with a well taken point as the floodgates began to open.
Killian Porter worked tirelessly throughout and his curled effort came between another 2 scores for John L. St Pauls tried to salvage something from the game as they launched high balls into the square but the Cafnaross defenders were more than able for them. The final move of the game was the pick of the bunch. Brian Comaskey claimed a mark from his own kickout and the ball was transferred forward with blistering pace for Thomas Nugent to rifle into the back of the net to complete proceedings.
Carnaross had to dig deep to dispose of a dogged St Pauls outfit but pulled up comfortably in the end. The final group game is against neighbours St Michaels with the winners progressing from the group.
