Carnaross 1-09 Skryne 0-06

Under-14 League (Division 3)

Played in Skryne - 27/3/2007

Carnaross played their first game in the U-14 football league after three previous postponements due to unplayable pitches and had a great win away to Skryne in a match that was finished under floodlights as darkness and the fog made visibility difficult.

Carnaross started in whirlwind fashion with points from John Carpenter and Colm McDonagh followed by a goal from the impressive Carpenter before Skryne registered their first score but really should have had the game beyond doubt at this stage as they spurned four good goal opportunities and several point scoring chances. Skryne tagged on two more points before points from Barry O’ Connor, H J Muldoon and Carpenter left the half-time score reading 1-05 to 0-03 in favour of Carnaross.

Ryan Lang increased the lead on the resumption with a fine point following a good run through the Skryne defence. Carnaross then went a long spell without a score as Skryne came more into the game adding on three points to leave just a goal between the teams as the game entered the final stages. Late points from Barry O’Connor and John Carpenter put the game beyond doubt as the game finished in quite a dense fog.

This was a great win for Carnaross against one of the strongest teams in the division and should set up the team for a good run in the competition.

This was a solid all round team performance with some of the younger players putting in outstanding displays. Particularly impressive were Michael and Charles Brogan and Gary McDermott in defence, John Ward and Charles Dillon in midfield and John Carpenter, Pierce Fleming and Ryan Lang in attack.

Carnaross: Joshua Barrett; Peter Carpenter, Charles Brogan, Liam Brogan; Paddy Dillon, Gary McDermott, Michael Brogan; John Ward, Charles Dillon; Colm McDonagh (0-1), Ryan Lang (0-1), Pierce Fleming; Barry O’Connor (0-2), HJ Muldoon (0-1), John Carpenter (1-4);
