Carnaross and Syddan had to share the points following an exciting opening game in the Intermediate Championship played in perfect conditions in Moynalty.
Carnaross hit the first point right from the throw in with John L McGee finishing off the move from close range. Syddan then took the lead with two quick points in a row. Declan Reilly put Carnaross back on level terms following a fantastic point from a tight angle. Both sides traded a point each with Niall McDonnell hitting the target for Carnaross. Syddan then enjoyed a purple patch and went on to take a three point lead. After twenty minutes they added the game’s opening goal to put them six in front. John L McGee got a point from play for Carnaross before Declan Reilly brought Carnaross back into the game with a bizarre goal. His initial effort to fist the ball to the net failed but as he fell head first to the ground he put the ball in with his heel. Syddan ended the first half scoring with a free to lead 1-7 to 1-4 at the break.
After the restart Carnaross hit the ground running and John L McGee set up Niall McDonnell to finish low to the net to leave the sides level. Two more points from play from Ollie Murphy and McDonnell put Carnaross in front once again. Syddan reduced the margin with another point. The game became very tight midway through the half with the only score coming from John L McGee. With ten minutes remaining a Syddan free left one point in it but Carnaross raised the tempo once again with McGee adding two more points going into the closing stages. The game was far from over however and Syddan broke through to score an equalising goal. Brian Comaskey put Carnaross back in front but once again Syddan responded to leave the teams level.

Carnaross got the better of neighbours St. Michaels in a game played at a hectic pace throughout.
Niall McDonnell opened the scoring in the first minute with a point from play. Things got better for Carnaross in the second minute when John L McGee made no mistake finishing to the back of the net from close range. A point from Peter Mullan and a fisted effort from McGee left Carnaross six points clear after just five minutes. St Michaels then got off the mark before doubling their tally soon afterwards. Both sides traded points before a St Michaels goal brought them back into the game going into the last ten minutes. McGee converted another point for Carnaross but it was St Michaels who finished the half strongest and added four more points without reply to leave the sides level at half-time on 1-7 each.
A point for St Michaels gave them the lead for the first time. Niall McDonnell levelled matters once more. St Michaels hit the front again with a point from play. Carnaross began to dominate the game from then on and three McGee points put them two in front with ten minutes remaining. Another point from Niall McDonnell and three more frees from John L McGee, who finished an outstanding performance with 1-10, ensured Carnaross of their first win.

Carnaross suffered their first defeat following a tough battle with neighbours Gaeil Colmcille.
The Kells men, playing against a strong breeze, got off to the perfect start scoring a goal inside the opening minute. It got even better two minutes later when they were awarded a penalty which gave them their second goal. Niall McDonnell opened the Carnaross account with a point from play. However, Gaeil Colmcille were on top and added another two points from play to take a seven point lead after ten minutes. John L McGee added a free for Carnaross and followed it up with a goal after rounding the Kells keeper to leave just three between the sides. Gaeil Colmcille converted a free but this was cancelled out with Brian Comaskey hitting the target for Carnaross. Carnaross then had the chance of a second goal but the Gaeil Colmcille keeper kept the effort out. Two more points for Gaeil Colmcille stretched their lead further and things got worse for Carnaross when substitute Stein Carpenter received a straight red. Just on the stroke of half time Carnaross were awarded a penalty which John L McGee put in the top corner of the net bringing Carnaross back into the game trailing by just two points, 2-3 to 2-5.
Gaeil Colmcille scored the opening point after the restart. Carnaross however battled hard for everything and were rewarded with their second penalty after Peter Mullan was taken down. Once again John L McGee made no mistake from the spot and Carnaross were back on level terms. Gaeil Colmcille kept their noses in front adding two more points. The game had turned into a real dogfight at this stage with scores very hard to get. McGee added a free for Carnaross to reduce the margin to one point with ten minutes remaining. Gaeil Colmcille scored another point from play as they fought hard to keep Carnaross out. As Carnaross searched for the goal it was the Kells men who got the insurance score just before the final whistle.

A failure to convert chances resulted in Carnaross exiting the Championship after a tough battle with Dunderry in Pairc Tailteann.
Dunderry almost opened the scoring in the first minute with a goal but were kept out twice following two good blocks from Cillian Comaskey and Patrick Nugent. They did take the lead with a free and doubled their advantage soon afterwards. Brian Comaskey scored the first point for Carnaross with a fine effort from play but Dunderry replied with another point. Carnaross managed to gain plenty of possession and points from Dermot McGee, Damian Smith and John L McGee put them in front after fifteen minutes. They should have been further in front but for some wayward shooting while they were on top. Two points for Dunderry put them back in front before John L McGee levelled matters with a free. Dunderry added two more points in injury time to lead 0-7 to 0-5 at half-time.
Dunderry started the second-half brightly with a point from play. Their lead could have been doubled but for a save by Cillian Comaskey from a one on one. Dunderry converted the resulting ’45. Carnaross then had a goal chance but it was the Dunderry keepers turn to pull off a good save. Dermot McGee scored his second point of the game but Dunderry replied strongly with two more points to take a five point lead. With six minutes remaining John L McGee gave Carnaross hope with a goal following a long pass in from his brother Dermot. However, Carnaross could not take advantage and it was Dunderry who closed the game out with three unanswered point in the closing stages. Injury time points from John L McGee and Patrick Nugent reduced the margin but it was too late for Carnaross who were left to rue the missed chances after kicking fourteen wides during the game.
