A League (Division 3)

Played in Carnaross – 13/3/2013

Carnaross emerged on the right side of a tough battle with Kilmainhamwood by the minimum margin to pick up their first league points of the year.

Both sides went into the game in search of their first win of the campaign so a tough encounter was in store, and so it proved. The home side hit the front early with two points from play from Niall McDonnell and John L McGee in the opening five minutes before Kilmainhamwood got off the mark two minutes later. After ten minutes with no score for either side, Kilmainhamwood hit a purple patch scoring 2-1 in four minutes to open up a six point lead after 20 minutes. Carnaross made a few positional switches to settle the ship and went on to added three points from Charles Brogan, John L McGee and Michael Brogan. They were then awarded a penalty after a foul on John L McGee who took the spot kick and fired to the top corner to leave the sides level at the break, 1-5 to 2-2.

The second-half had just resumed when John L McGee was unlucky to see his goal attempt come back off the crossbar. Carnaross did go on to retake the lead with a free from McGee and their advantage was doubled when Stephen Flattery pointed from play. Kilmainhamwood then levelled the game with the next two scores with fifteen minutes remaining. Carnaross did get another goal chance but the Kilmainhamwood keeper reacted quickly with a good save to put the ball out for a ’45. Carnaross hit the front again with two very well taken points from Niall McDonnell in the space of a minute. Kilmainhamwood got the next point with five minutes to go and fought very hard to get an equaliser. Carnaross 2-6 Ratoath 1-9

A League (Division 3)

Played in Ratoath – 28/3/2013

Carnaross and Ratoath shared the points after an entertaining tussle on a bitterly cold night in Ratoath.

There was late drama at the finish as all but two of the floodlights failed four minutes into injury time. However, with the sides level the referee was happy enough to call time on proceedings.

Ratoath made the better start to the game with three converted frees in the opening ten minutes. Their early lead was wiped out when John L McGee found the net after thirteen minutes following good link up play with Ollie Murphy. McGee pointed from play a minute later to put Carnaross into the lead. Things got better for the visitors when Ollie Murphy blasted home their second goal in the seventeenth minute after being put through by Shane Casserly. Further points from Ratoath reduced the margin but Carnaross stretched their lead with points from John L McGee (2) and Charles Brogan in the space of three minutes to take a 2-4 to 0-5 half-time advantage.

The start to the second-half was very tight as the home side fought hard to get back into the game. Ratoath scored the first two points before John L McGee responded with a point for Carnaross. Carnaross were then dealt a setback as Peter Mullan was red-carded with thirteen minutes to go. Ratoath upped the pressure with the extra man and scored three points in a row to reduce the margin to two points. Substitute Niall McDonnell finished a good move for Carnaross with what proved to be his last point for Carnaross before his departure to Australia to leave fourteen-man Carnaross three points in front with time running out. However, Ratoath levelled the match as they found the net with only one minute of normal time remaining. They had the chance to win the game but were guilty of missing two frees in added time before the floodlight intervention resulted in a share of the spoils.

Carnaross went on to finish stronger and out-scored Syddan four points to one in the closing stages with Dermot McGee (2), Liam Brogan and Cian Gillic hitting the target. A League (Division 3)

Played in Carnaross – 19/5/2013

There was no separating Carnaross and Clann na nGael in a game where the sides were level on six occasions.

The first-half was a very tight and low-scoring affair despite four scores coming in the opening eight minutes. Michael Brogan gave Carnaross an early lead with a point in the first minute but Clann na nGael replied with a free two minutes later. John L McGee edged Carnaross in front once more before Clann na nGael equalised in the eighth minutes. There was no further score for the next eighteen minutes but Clann na nGael did have a goal chance which was denied by a fantastic block from corner-back Ian Donoghue. Peter Mullan put Carnaross in front once more but Clann na nGael levelled once more on the stroke of half-time to leave the sides level on 0-3 each.

Clann na nGael took the lead for the first time just after the restart and doubled their advantage a minute later. Carnaross battled back and points from John Carpenter and John L McGee had the sides level once more. Carnaross were back in front at the midway stage of the half when substitute Charles Brogan pointed from play but once again this score was cancelled out when Clann na nGael responded immediately. With the game going into the closing stages Carnaross looked to be finishing strongest when two excellent points from John L McGee in the space of a minute gave the home side a two point advantage with five minutes remaining. Two goals from Ollie Murphy in the space of four minutes triggered a Carnaross comeback after they found themselves trailing by eight points after only thirteen minutes.

The game was played in very warm conditions and it was the home side who produced the sunshine football early on. Bective found the net after just four minutes and added on a point from the next attack. Liam Brogan opened the Carnaross account with a point but Bective continued to score at will and built up a lead of 2-3 to 0-1 after only thirteen minutes. Patrick Nugent pointed twice for Carnaross but both points were cancelled out by two Bective points at the other end. After a stoppage of four minutes for an injury Carnaross resumed with a second-wind. John Carpenter pointed from play before Ollie Murphy found the net, not once, but twice in the space of four minutes. Liam Brogan also added a point to level the game but a Bective point left them leading 2-6 to 2-5 at the break.

After Carnaross battling so hard to get back into the game, the second-half was a much tighter encounter than the opening period had been. Both sides exchanged two points each in the third quarter with Cillian Comaskey and Patrick Nugent hitting the target for Carnaross. John L McGee levelled the game with a free but Ballinabrackey once again took the lead with two points in quick succession. Patrick Nugent reduced the deficit with a point but Ballinabrackey continued their good spell by adding two more points to lead 0-8 to 0-5 at the break.

Carnaross took the lead once more with Cillian Comaskey converting a free eight minutes in. The game then went through a period of ten minutes without a score but John L McGee did get two goal chances in the space of a minute which were both kept out, the second coming back off the crossbar.
