Junior D Championship (Round 2)

Played in Carlanstown – 30/5/2013

A strong second-half performance from Carnaross resulted in a comfortable JDFC victory over Wolfe Tones in a sunny Carlanstown.

It was Wolfe Tones who set the early pace with two points in the opening five minutes before Carnaross got their first score from the boot of Colm McDonagh after ten minutes. Carnaross then went on to take the lead with a clinical finish to the net from Tadgh Skelly after fifteen minutes. Stephen McGrath added another point for Carnaross but two late points from Wolfe Tones reduced the margin to only a point at half-time, 1-2 to 0-4 in favour of Carnaross.

Carnaross pulled away immediately after the restart with two points in a row from midfielder Colm Carpenter. Their lead was stretched further when Colm McDonagh blasted to the net five minutes in. Carnaross continued to dominate and added a point through Stephen McGrath before Dean Connell scored a third goal. Wolfe Tones replied with a point but Carnaross hit back with Dean Connell getting his second goal of the game before a point each from Gavin Murphy and Ollie Farrelly extended the lead further. Wolfe Tones got the final score of the game from a free to leave Carnaross thirteen point winners with all of their scores coming from play.

Carnaross 2-8 Kilmainham 2-10

Junior D Championship (Round 3)

Played in Moynalty – 13/6/2013

A very poor first-half proved costly for Carnaross as they lost out to neighbours Kilmainham by only two points after trailing by nine points at one stage.

Kilmainham played with the breeze in the opening period and took full advantage of the elements with a strong first-half. The opening score was a goal for Kilmainham in the seventh minute and they went on to open up a seven point lead after twenty minutes as Carnaross struggled to settle into the game. Their first score finally arrived three minutes before the break from the boot of Paul Donoghue and he doubled his tally a minute later to leave Carnaross trailing 1-4 to 0-2 at the break.

Carnaross opened the second-half scoring straight from the throw in when Tadgh Skelly converted a handy free. Kilmainham replied with two points before getting their second goal of the game to open up a nine point lead with twenty-five minutes remaining. However, a goal from Colin Yore a minute later gave Carnaross a chance of getting back into the game and they took full advantage. Further points from Paul Donoghue (3) and Colm McDonagh reduced the deficit but Kilmainham also added three points to maintain a five point lead with five minutes remaining. Carnaross continued to push on and a goal from Oliver Farrelly left everything to play for. Kilaminham added another point to leave a goal in it going into stoppage time. Another goal chance fell to Oliver Farrelly but his attempt just went the wrong side of the crossbar to leave Kilmainham two point winners.

Carnaross 0-9 Kilmainhamwood 1-14

Junior D Championship (Quarter-Final)

Played in Kilmainham – 1/9/2013

A strong second-half performance from an unbeaten and very experienced Kilmainhamwood side resulted in Carnaross making an exit from the Junior D Championship.

In a lively opening half the sides were level on three occasions in the first fifteen minutes with all the Carnaross score coming from the boot of Declan Reilly. Carnaross led the way for the remainder of the first-half and opened up a three point lead with scores from Ollie Farrelly and Declan Reilly (2). Both sides traded a point each with Killian Porter hitting the target for Carnaross. However, on the stroke of half-time a goal from Kilmainhamwood left the sides level 0-7 to 1-4 at the break.

Kilmainhamwoods vast experience told in the second-half as they went on to dominate the remainder of the game and went on to add seven points in a row to put the result beyond doubt. Carnaross added two late points but they were merely consolation scores as Kilmainhamwood marched on to the semi-final stages.
