Peadar Nugent - RIP

The death has occurred of Peter (Peadar) Nugent, a great Carnaross and Meath Gael.

Peadar first came to prominence in 1950 when he played an instrumental role in the u14 championship winning team in Carnaross. This was a hugely significant tournament, as it was the first championship played since the war years.

This team was the beginning of a golden generation for Carnaross with stars emerging from that victorious u14 team that went on to become integral members of the Junior and Intermediate Championship winning sides of 1955 and 1957 as mere 18 and 19 year olds.

Peadar continued to devote his time to Carnaross GFC and he was always held in the highest regard by his teammates for his passion, honesty and determination on and off the field.

Peadar went on to become a club President, making a tremendous effort to attend every Carnaross game throughout the years. His sons Thomas, Peter and Paddy followed in his footsteps by donning the maroon and saffron jerseys of the club accounting for the entire full back line in the Intermediate Final in 2010.

Every person who ever encountered Peadar Nugent held him in the highest esteem. He was an old fashioned, good, honest and honourable family man who quietly went about his business.

He was an absolute gentleman and he will be dearly missed by everyone here in the club and the wider GAA community.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
