Carnaross 3-11 Seneschalstown 0-5

B League (Division 5)

Played in Seneschalstown – 8/2/2015

Carnaross enjoyed a comfortable first round victory to take full points away from a foggy Seneschalstown.

Scores were scarce in the opening ten minutes but Carnaross had keeper Shane McNiffe to thank when he was quick off his line to deny Seneschalstown a goal in the fifth minute. Carnaross got off the mark when Paul Donoghue converted two free in as many minutes. Carnaross then took full control of proceedings and further points from Thomas Nugent, Shane Casserly, Barry O’Connor and two more frees from Paul Donoghue gave them a seven point lead. Seneschalstown got their opening score nine minutes before the break and doubled their tally four minutes later. However, Carnaross got the final score when Thomas Nugent pointed a free to leave his side leading 0-8 to 0-2 at the interval.

Paddy Dillon opened the second-half scoring with an early point but the home side responded immediately at the other end. Tomás Plunkett pointed to edge Carnaross further ahead before a goal apiece from Paddy Dillon and Shane Casserly in the space of a minute finished the game as a contest with twenty minutes remaining. Seneschalstown added a free and it was ten minutes before the next score came along, another point for the home side. Carnaross finished out the game with substitute Enda Gillic hitting 1-1 in the closing stages.

Carnaross 1-13 Clonard 0-5

B League (Division 5)

Played in Carnaross – 27/2/2015

A strong first-half display set Carnaross up for their second win in the B League at home to Clonard.

Carnaross played with the strong breeze in the opening period and could not have made a better start with a point each for midfielders Thomas Nugent and Tomás Plunkett inside the first five minutes. Paul Donoghue chipped in with three points in a row before Tomás Plunkett charged through and rifled the ball to the net to give his side an eight point lead after just ten minutes. Further points from Ian Donoghue (2), Barry O’Connor and Shane Casserly extended the advantage to twelve before Clonard opened their account with a point in the twenty fourth minute. Carnaross added two more points from Cian O’Reilly and Paul Donoghue to lead 1-11 to 0-1 at half-time.

A point from Shane Casserly edged Carnaross further in front early after the restart, but Clonard took advantage of the strong breeze and hit four points in a row. However, the Carnaross defence withstood everything that was thrown at them including a good stop from keeper Shane McNiffe late on. Carnaross finished the scoring with a point from Paul Donoghue as their strong first-half display eased the pressure and left them in control for the remainder of the game.

B League (Division 5)

Played in Drumconrath – 14/3/2015

Carnaross suffered their first B League loss with a ten point defeat against Drumconrath.

In a lively game, Drumconrath took an early lead which they would maintain throughout the game when they registered 1-2 in the opening eight minutes. Paul Donoghue converted a free to open the Carnaross account but Drumconrath responded with two more points. Carnaross hit back with four points from Paul Donoghue, Cian O’Reilly (2) and Stephen Flattery to cut the margin to three points. Carnaross should have been closer but were guilty of spurning several chances and were punished when Drumconrath hit 1-2 in the closing two minutes to take a 2-7 to 0-5 half-time lead.

Drumconrath hit the first point of the second-half but Carnaross replied well with four points in a row from Cian O’Reilly (2), Stephen Flattery and Shane Casserly. However, the home side responded with four points of their own to restore their nine point advantage. Carnaross refused to give up and added three more points from Frank O’Reilly, Cian O’Reilly and Colm McDonagh but when Drumconrath found the net for a third time with five minutes remaining it put the result beyond doubt. Cian O’Reilly hit a fantastic goal from a free for Carnaross despite most of the Drumconrath team lined up in the goals but the home side responded once more with their fourth goal on the stroke of full time.

B League (Division 5)

Played in Boardsmill – 16/5/2015

Two late points from Cillian Comaskey and Cian O’Reilly gave Carnaross a share of the spoils following an action packed encounter with Boardsmill.

There was a threat of rain prior to throw in but thankfully the sun came out and the game which followed was a highly entertaining clash where a draw was probably the fairest result. Both sides started well and exchanged two points each early on with Pierce Fleming and Shane Casserly getting the Carnaross scores. Boardsmill then took the early advantage when they scored the game’s first goal in the ninth minute. Cillian Comaskey added a point but Boardsmill stretched their advantage with two more points. Carnaross replied with points from Colm McDonagh and Shane Casserly who was unlucky to see his penalty attempt clip off the crossbar for a point. Boardsmill got two more points before Pierce Fleming finished the first-half scoring to leave Carnaross trailing the home side by 1-6 to 0-6.

The high tempo continued after the restart and Boardsmill edged five clear when they outscored Carnaross 0-3 to 0-1 in the opening five minutes with Clom McDonagh getting the Carnaross score. However, a minute later there was only a point between the sides after Colm McDonagh fired to the net and Shane Casserly immediately added a point. The end to end action continued with both sides trading two points each with the Carnaross scores coming from Pierce Fleming and a Cillian Comaskey ’45. The lead then changed when Colm McDonagh got his second goal to give Carnaross a two point advantage with ten minutes remaining. Boardsmill almost replied straight away at the other end but had keeper Shane McNiffe to thank for keeping the goal attempt out. Liam Brogan added another point for Carnaross but Boardsmill hit back once again and went on to take a two point lead with one minute remaining. However, Carnaross refused to throw in the towel and were rewarded with two points in added time from Cillian Comaskey and Cian O’Reilly to earn Carnaross a valuable point.

Carnaross 2-9 St. Brigid’s 1-13

B League (Division 5)

Played in Carnaross – 15/6/2015

St Brigid’s leap-frogged Carnaross in the B League table into third place with a one point victory in Round 6.

It was the men from Ballinacree who made the better start and took an early lead with four points without reply in the opening eight minutes. Barry O’Connor opened the Carnaross account after twelve minutes but St Brigid’s replied with a free at the other end. A point from Cillian Comaskey reduced the margin to three points as Carnaross got back into the game, but they spurned many chances which came their way with a succession of wides. Despite being second best in the opening half, Carnaross found themselves level when Paul Donoghue got the game’s first goal with two minutes remaining. However, St Brigid’s restored their lead with a late point to lead 0-6 to 1-2 at the break.

The second-half was much more competitive than the first with both sides exchanging three points each in the opening eight minutes with Barry O’Connor, Paul Donoghue and Cillian Comaskey hitting the target for Carnaross. St Brigid’s then took control of proceedings when they stretched their lead to six points when they registered 1-2 without reply. However, Carnaross refused to throw in the towel and two points from Barry O’Connor within a minute gave them plenty to play for with ten minutes remaining. St Brigid’s added another point but Carnaross continued to fight back with two more points from the boot of O’Connor. Another point from St Brigid’s gave them a four point lead with two minutes remaining which proved to be a crucial score as Carnaross found the net when Paddy Dillon rounded the keeper in stoppage time to reduce the margin to the minimum. Carnaross had a chance to level it but Pierce Fleming was unlucky to see his point attempt sail the wrong side of the post with the last kick of the game but ultimately it was the twelve wides earlier in the game which caught up with the home side.

Farrelly, Stephen Dawson, Aidan Lynch; Cian Yore, Peter Carpenter, Liam Brogan; Peter Mullan, Cillian Comaskey (0-2); Enda Gillic, Cian O’Reilly, Frank O’Reilly; Barry O’Connor (0-6), Paul Donoghue (1-1), Dean Connell; Subs: Brian Comaskey for Cian Yore; Pierce Fleming for Enda Gillic; Shane Casserly for Dean Connell; Stephen Flattery for Cillian Comaskey; Paddy Dillon (1-0) for Paul Donoghue;

Carnaross 3-7 Moynalty 0-10

B League (Division 5)

Played in Moynalty – 29/6/2015

A strong second-half performance resulted in Carnaross claiming full points against neighbours Moynalty.

The first-half was action packed throughout with a lot of well taken scores from both sides. Moynalty took the early advantage with a point inside the opening minute but Carnaross responded well when wing-back Liam Brogan sailed through the Moynalty defence and fired low to the net. Moynalty hit back with three points in as many minutes but Frank O’Reilly put Carnaross back in front once more with a goal in the seventh minute. Both sides exchange two points each with Frank O’Reilly and Niall McDonnell getting the Carnaross scores. Moynalty finished the half strong and scored three points in a row to go one up but a point from Shane Casserly left it all square at the break, 2-3 to 0-9.

While the first-half was end to end action, Carnaross upped their game and controlled the second-half. They got the perfect start when Paddy Dillon got his fist to the ball after a minute for his side’s third goal. Shane Casserly added a point a minute later. It took ten minutes before the next score arrived when Niall McDonnell pointed to put Carnaross five up. Pierce Fleming added another with ten minutes remaining before Moynalty got their only score of the second-half from a free which was also the only score from a placed ball during the game. Moynalty almost got a goal back in the closing stages but were denied by a timely block from Peter Carpenter. Frank O’Reilly completed the scoring with a late point to leave Carnaross six in front at the final whistle.

Carnaross 1-16 St. Vincent’s 0-7

B League (Division 5)

Played in Carnaross – 22/7/2015

Carnaross kept their slim hopes of promotion alive with a convincing win over table toppers St. Vincent’s.

The Ardcath side were struggling for numbers and as a result both sides fielded thirteen aside. Despite this setback St. Vincent’s started the game brightly and were unlucky not to have a goal in the opening minute when their attempt came back off the crossbar. A lively start to the game resulted in the sides being level on five occasions in the opening fifteen minutes with Cillian Comaskey, Paul Donoghue (2), Frank O’Reilly and Cian O’Reilly pointing for the home side. Two points in a row from Frank O’Reilly edged Carnaross two in front before the game’s only goal arrived when Colm McDonagh finished a rebound after good build up play from Aidan Lynch. St. Vincent’s hit back with two points but another Cillian Comaskey point left Carnaross leading 1-8 to 0-7 at half-time.

St. Vincent’s got the opening score of the second-half in the first minute but could only register one more which did not arrive until the final minute of the game. Carnaross were dominant throughout the second-half and were able to empty the bench, a luxury St. Vincent’s were denied due to their lack of numbers. Further points from Frank O’Reilly (3), Paul Donoghue (2), Colm McDonagh, Shane Casserly and Cillian Comaskey left Carnaross ten points in front when the final whistle sounded. With one game remaining Carnaross still have a slim chance of promotion depending on other results going in their favour.

Carnaross: Shane McNiffe; Peter Carpenter, Liam Brogan; Aidan Lynch, Brian Comaskey, Stephen Flattery; Richard Mulvey, Cian O’Reilly (0-1); Frank O’Reilly (0-6), Pierce Fleming, Cillian Comaskey (0-3); Colm McDonagh (1-1), Paul Donoghue (0-4); Subs: Stephen Dawson for Richard Mulvey; Cian Yore for Aidan Lynch; Barry O’Connor for Paul Donoghue; Shane Casserly (0-1) for Colm McDonagh; Peter T. Farrelly for Peter Carpenter; Matthew O’Reilly for Brian Comaskey;
