Moynalty/Carnaross 2-10 Oldcastle 2-18

Under-17

Played in Carnaross - 14/3/2018

The Moynalty/Carnaross U17s kicked off their league campaign on Tuesday night one month overdue because of all the bad weather. Their opponents were Oldcastle who have ran them close over the years, could not beat them, but the games are always tight. The pitch was very heavy with all the rain that had fallen, not to forget the after effects of “Storm Emma”.

Oldcastle kicked off with two quick points then Paddy Farnham, starting at full forward, found the back of the Oldcastle net followed by two quick points from Darragh O’Reilly followed by points from Luke Gillic and Bryan Mc Cormack.

Oldcastle struck back with a goal of their own and followed by ten more points before half time. Moynalty/Carnaross forwards James Lynch and Cian Lynch chipped in with a point each. Half time score Oldcastle 1-12 Moynalty/Carnaross 1-06

Our boys started far better in the second half and put up a good show with Bryan McCormack scoring 1:03 and Darragh Reilly 0:01 but Oldcastle scored 1:06 in the second half. Even though there was an 8-point difference, Moynalty/Carnaross were guilty of squandering a lot of chances in front of goal but the muddy pitch hampered their ability to play good solid football which they usually play.

Team: Evan Govern; Joey Gilsenan, Séan Carpenter, Dylan Gargan; Shane O’Reilly, Odhran Farrelly, Daniel Roche; Luke Gillic, Cormac Yore; Shane Yore, Bryan McCormack, James Lynch; Darragh O’Reilly, Paddy Farnan, Kian Lynch; Subs: Conor O’Reilly, Aaron Sheehan

Moynalty/Carnaross 3-8 Summerhill 4-15

Under-17

Played in Dunganny - 26/3/2018

Moynalty/Carnaross travelled to Dunganny to play Summerhill on the 3G pitch in a must win for both teams and a place in the semi-finals. The format has changed this year with only 4 teams in a group compared to 8 teams last year and that is a massive difference as you might only get 3 games played instead of 7 + playoff.

Summerhill kicked off with the first point of the game and for the next 20 mins Moynalty/Carnaross dominated the game kicking 1:07 without reply with scores coming from Bryan Mc Cormack (1:01), James Lynch (0:02), Aaron Sheehan (0:01) Cormac Yore (0:01), Shane O’Reilly (0:01), Shane Yore (0:01).

Then it was Summerhill who turned on the style where they knocked in 2:05 in the space of ten mins but just before half time Cian Mc Glynn hit the back of the Summerhill net leaving the half time score Moynalty/Carnaross 2:07 Summerhill 2:05.

Summerhill started the second half strong and after 6 min had scored 1:04. Cian Mc Glynn scored his second goal of the match followed by a point from Cormac Yore that was the last score for the Moynalty/Carnaross team in the second half. Summerhill knocked over another 6 points at the end to run out winners.

Moynalty/Carnaross were missing 4 players (3 Injured, 1 Away) this made a big difference in the outcome of this match. The outcome of this result finishes the u17 League for the Moynalty/Carnaross Team.

Team: Evan Govern; Joey Gilsenan, Sean Carpenter, Darragh O’Reilly; Shane O’Reilly, Odhran Farrelly, Cian McGlynn; Luke Gillic, Bryan Mc Cormack; Shane Yore, Cormac Yore, James Lynch; Cian Lynch, Aaron Sheehan, Conor O Reilly; Sub: Adam Reilly.
