Carnaross came out second best against the home side Skryne in this Junior C opening round tussle played on a bitterly cold Saturday evening.
Carnaross 1-10 Skryne 2-13
Junior C Championship (Round 1)
Played in Skryne – 13/4/2019
The visitors played with a strong breeze in the opening half and didn’t take long to establish a lead. A quick free kick from Cormac Yore in the opening minutes set Thomas Nugent through on goals after the midfielder drifted in behind the Skryne defence undetected. Nugent then sent the Skryne keeper packing with a delightful dummy before slotting home.
Carnaross stretched their lead with points from Yore, Peter Mullan and John Plunkett but Skryne refused to lie down and got back within touching distance with a well taken goal. The sides swapped points before the break to leave Carnaross with a narrow 2 point lead heading in at the break.
Carnaross could and probably should have led by more but for some wayward passing and it was always likely to be a struggle to hold on to the narrow lead playing against the elements. And so it proved as Skryne laid siege to the Ross’ rear guard, overturning the deficit.
Carnaross had a goal chance midway through the half that crashed off the post but couldn’t create enough chances to stay in the game as Skryne ran out winners on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-10
