BFL R3: Winning run continues against St Pauls

Carnaross made the trip down the M3 a worthwhile journey by claiming another win against St Pauls.

Carnaross 1-11 St. Pauls 1-8

B League (Division 4)
Played in Pace – 23/3/2019

The visitors took the spoils with a three point victory despite a mini revival by the home side near the end.

Carnaross had the better of the early stages as the dynamic midfield duo of Thomas Nugent and Luke Gillic, separated by all of 24 years, opened the scoring with a point each followed by a long range free from Stephen Dawson.

St Pauls struck back immediately with a goal against the run of play, however, the visitors regained control of proceedings with Shane Yore nabbing a point off the left and setting up Peter Mullan after an incisive run. Corner back Sean Carpenter then made a crucial interception to deny a clear goal chance before Liam Day and Cormac Yore closed out the first half with a pair of points.

Liam Day put daylight between the two sides after the break when he gathered the rebound and tapped home from close range after Shane Yore’s volleyed effort was saved. Further points from Yore, Day and substitute Odhran Farrelly put the Ross in the driving seat and, although St Pauls kicked the last three points of the game, the visitors were never seriously troubled as they ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-8.
