Ollie Murphy landed the equalising point for Carnaross with the final kick of the game to ensure a share of the spoils with Dunsany in the Junior C championship.
Carnaross 2-11 Dunsany 3-8
Junior C Championship (Round 3)
Played in Carnaross – 28/7/2019
There was nothing between the sides throughout this encounter and both sides would have been satisfied with the outcome following an entertaining tussle on a hot summer afternoon.
Dean Connell was well acclimatised to the hot conditions following his return from Bali and he made journey burst forward from wing back worthwhile with a fine point to open the scoring. Dunsany responded well and put daylight between the sides with a few points before going on to add two goals. Carnaross hit back with both Colm Carpenter and Blaine Lynch hitting 1-1 apiece to bring the home side back into contention. Dunsany extended their lead once more but another point from Carpenter left Carnaross just a point behind at the break, 2-5 to 2-4.
The second half continued in the same theme as the first with very little between the teams. Points from Cormac Yore, Pauric O’Connor and Paddy Nugent gave Carnaross the early advantage but Dunsany were hanging on with a few points of their own. Points from Blaine Lynch and Shane Casserly kept Carnaross in front by the minimum but they were guilty of not killing the game with a number of spurned chances while they were on top. As is often the case they were punished at the other end when Dunsany scored their third goal to regain the lead.
However, Carnaross were not done yet and when Ollie Murphy converted what was only the second free of the game it left just a point in it with time almost up. Carnaross regained possession and when Murphy found a bit of space forty yards out it was all he needed to land the equalising score before Referee Larry McEntee blew for full time on the resulting kickout.
